The Supreme Court did not approve same-sex marriage in India. However, they practically approved of same-gender relationships. The verdict is that gay couples can't adopt a child. Globally acclaimed author Taslima Nasrin expressed her opinion on the verdict.

She wrote on Facebook, “Two people love each other and want to stay together. Is this not enough to legally recognise them as a couple? Why do we need to see their genitals or how they have sex? Let them do whatever they want to. If they are happy, who are we to stop them? If they don't harm anyone, no one needs to have any objection.”

Taslima further added, “Don’t homosexual people give birth to children? Who says they don’t? I have seen my lesbian friends getting pregnant with the sperm from gay friends. I have seen them adopting children. They bring up children as much as a straight woman. Bi-sexual, transexual, homosexual – everyone has the right to live life on their terms. Everyone has the right to live with their loved ones in peace. Denying them that right is not a reflection of a democracy. I don’t believe in marriage. It is a patriarchal institution. However, if someone wants to believe in it, I support them with my 100%. Similarly, I support a person’s right to not marry equally. Who gets married, and what they do with their marriage are people’s calls. India should have legalised same-sex marriage.”

Taslima is known to be a liberal voice in the society. After her book Lajja, she has been hounded by fanatic people from Bangladesh.
