Actors Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen star in the 2025 Tamil film titled Thalaivan Thalaivii. The film is a romantic family drama set in rural Madurai. It is written and directed by filmmaker Pandiraaj, and released in theatres on July 25, Friday. On its first day, Thalaivan Thalaivii collected Rs 4.15 crore, as per Sacnilk report. While it is a decent start, the film is expected to get picked up during the weekend. Given the rural flavour of the film, it is also expected to run in small towns and villages.
Thalaivan Thalaivii comes from directed Pandiraaj, who is known for films that uphold family relationships. The director was missing in action since his last film Etharkkum Thunindhavan starring Suriya released in 2022. Thalaivan Thalaivii revolves around two people who fall in love through an arranged marriage setup and bond over food. As they get married, their lives take a sour turn with fights and arguments. Their bickering leads to their separation with the rest of the film dealing with what happened in their lives.

Prime Video has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. Thalaivan Thalaivii is expected to stream sometime in August last week. The film is produced by Sathya Jyothi Films and also features Yogi Babu, Mynaa Nandhini, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan and others. The technical crew includes music by Santhosh Narayanan and M. Sukumar cranking the camera. Pradeep E Ragav is the editor.
