TJ Gnanavel, who shot to fame with the acclaimed film Jai Bhim in 2021, was supposed to make a movie on P Rajagopal aka 'Dosa King', founder of one of the popular restaurant chains. However, the director surprised one and all a few months ago by announcing that he is set to helm none other than Rajinikanth.

Tentatively titled Thalaivar 170, Lyca Productions will be bankrolling the project. The untitled movie marks the third collaboration between the Superstar and the production house after Darbar and Lal Salaam.

There were reports that the movie will have Rajini playing a retired cop who stands for a cause. The team hasn't revealed when they are going on floors, though it is expected that Thalaivar 170 might take off later this year. The star was recently spotted at Puducherry shooting for Lal Salaam.

He had wrapped up Jailer's shooting recently and is awaiting its release on August 10. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial is his release after almost a two-year hiatus. The star's fans and other movie buffs have pinned high hopes on the action drama which features superstars from Malayalam and Kannada as well.

The latest on Thalaivar 170 is that the one and only Amitabh Bachchan is likely to play a crucial part in the project. The last time the legends came together on screen was in 1991, in Hum. Fans of the two icons are eager to know if the news is true and are excited to hear an official word from makers.

Last year, Rajini, who has always been a self-confessed fan of Amitabh, wished him on his 80th birthday and the latter reciprocated with a humble and inspiring reply thanking the Jailer star, leaving both their fans thrilled.
