The shoot for Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming film, which is tentatively being referred to as Thalaivar 170, has finally begun. The film was launched today along with a puja ceremony.

Thalaivar lights the candle
Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling the film, dropped the pictures on its social media handle. In the pictures, Rajinikanth is seen lightling the kuthu vilakku and later posing along with the cast and crew. Manju Warrier, who plays the leading lady, was also part of the launch, and she was seen in a casual attire. Also in attendance was the film's director TJ Gnanavel.

The production house captioned the picture, "#Thalaivar170 journey begins with an auspicious pooja ceremony today at Trivandrum (sic)." The shoot for the film has begun in the capital city of Kerala and it looks the plot will have a close connection to the city. Earlier, the team had announced a casting call for actors in Trivandrum, who spoke fluent Malayalam.

Thalaivar 170 to have a message
Speaking to the media at the Chennai airport, before heading to Trivandrum, Rajinikanth said that the film will have a message and that it would also have grandeur and entertainment at the same time. The star-studded cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan. Anirudh Ravichander will score the music for the fourth time after Petta, Darbar and Jailer.

This is the maiden collaboration between Rajinikanth and TJ Gnanavel, whose last outing was Jai Bhim, which revolved around a real-life incident that took place in the lives of a couple hailing from a marginalised community. Suriya essayed the role of Justice Chandru in the film, who fought for them. The film became a milestone in his career.
