With the title of Thalaivar 171 set to be announced soon, the makers of the film teased the fans with an intriguing poster of the film on April 21. The new poster showcases a chain of watches as seen on the first-look poster. However, we do not get to see the face of Rajinikanth in this poster that only focuses on his hand and the chain, and the superstar is also seen wearing a Kada. Although the poster did not evoke much interest among fans, the film’s director Lokesh Kanagaraj dropped an easter egg in the caption. Sharing the poster, the director wrote, “Tomorrow 6 am onwards D.I.S.C.O (sic)”.
The word DISCO has been doing the rounds on social media with fans trying to find the meaning behind the caption. A few have decoded the term, stating that the term D.I.S.C.O has been used to refer to the iconic DISCO song from Rajinikanth's 1983 film Thanga Magan. Since the title highlights the word ‘Thangam’ meaning gold, there are chances of the film being titled the same. There is a strong possibility that this could be true since the earlier released monochromatic poster featured gold watches. Nevertheless, we will get to know what the exciting title of Thalaivar 171 will be very soon! The title reveal of the film will be made on April 22 (tomorrow).
Is Thalaivar 171 a remake of The Purge?
Although reports suggest that Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Thalaivar 171 is set to be a story that happens within a day, fans cannot help but draw comparisons with the popular Hollywood film The Purge. For the unversed, the Hollywood film follows an annual event when the American government allows a period of 12 hours, during which all criminal activities are legal. Going by Lokesh’s history of drawing inspiration from other films (Vijay-starrer Leo was based on the film The History of Violence), this rumour could be true! Meanwhile, popular stars including Shobana, Mic Mohan, Shruti Haasan, Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan are rumoured to be playing pivotal roles in the upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer.
