Thalavan director Jis Joy’s next with Asif Ali not a thriller?
Thalavan sequel has already been announced, but director Jis Joy recently confirmed that his next Malayalam film would also be with actor Asif Ali, though not a thriller.

Director Jis Joy, who is best known for light-hearted films such as Sunday-Holiday, made audiences sit up with a gripping thriller, titled Thalavan. Starring Asif Ali and Biju Menon, the film focused on two cops who are at loggerheads. Thalavan sequel has already been announced, but director Jis Joy recently confirmed to Cue Studio that his next would also be with Asif Ali, though not a thriller.
Which is Jis Joy’s next film
Filmmaker Jis Joy has said that his next film would star Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan, the actors who previously starred together in the 2024 hit film Kishkindha Kaandam. Formidable writing duo of Bobby-Sanjay, known for movies such as Mumbai Police and Traffic, will pen the script for the upcoming film, which will not be a thriller, according to Jis Joy.
“It will be a small film like Sunday Holiday. It can be said as emotional or motivational but not at all a thriller,” Jis Joy said.
When will Thalavan sequel release
The director also said that he is working on the Thalavan sequel as well.
“We got a one-liner and the writing is in progress. When we were doing Thalavan, there was no expectation and it came out well by god's grace. But now there is a certain expectation among the audiences on how the film should start. The last film ended with the death of Dileesh Pothan's cop character. So how to start the film with another opening that the audiences are not expecting is what I am looking at,” Jis Joy explained.
What is Thalavan about?
Thalavan is a 2024 Malayalam film, which revolves around DySP Jayashankar (Biju Menon) and CI Karthik (Asif Ali) who spar over various things. Things take a turn when Jayashankar gets arrested in a murder and Karthik is tasked with the probe. The film is narrated by retired DySP Udhayabanu (Dileesh Pothan), who is found dead at the end.
