Thandel was one of the most awaited films in Telugu cinema, as the magical combination of Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi paired up once again—an aspect that itself served as a major selling point. With hit songs and strong promotional efforts, Chandoo Mondeti’s film opened to impressive numbers.
On day one, the film made ₹11.5 crore, followed by a strong second day. On Saturday, Thandel collected ₹10.75 crore, which is an impressive figure. With Sunday being a holiday, the collections are expected to shoot up even further.
The film’s pre-release business was locked at ₹90 crore, and Thandel needs to cross the ₹40 crore net mark at the box office by the end of this week to enter the safe zone. Given its current performance, things look promising for the makers.
Naga Chaitanya has delivered his career-best performance in this film, and his character is being widely appreciated. In the U.S., Thandel has already crossed the $400K mark, and by the end of the weekend, it is expected to surpass the $1 million milestone—an impressive feat for a Naga Chaitanya film in the overseas market.
Based on a real-life incident that occurred in Srikakulam a few years ago, the film’s love story resonated well with the audience. However, the jail sequences featuring Pakistani cops were perceived as routine and somewhat tedious. Many viewers pointed out these aspects and also felt that the film’s runtime was slightly lengthy.
Netflix has acquired the digital rights for over ₹55 crore and will stream the film in the first week of March 2025. Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music, and his songs are one of the film’s biggest highlights. Thandel was produced by Allu Aravind, who is expected to see decent profits.
As the crucial Monday collections roll in, it remains to be seen how the film will hold up in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates.
