The Acolyte is an upcoming Star Wars series that will showcase the High Republic era Jedi Order, set around a century or two before the events of the prequel. Armed with a dark plot, a stunning cast, and multiple Star Wars Easter eggs, the series premieres on OTT this summer. LucasFilm and Russian Doll fame Lesley Headland created the iconic two-episode journey.

The Acolyte release date and trailer

The Acolyte will be having a two-episode release on Disney+hotstar on June 4, 2024, instead of one. The show has also released a trailer, that further teases the growing anticipation of Star Wars fans. The trailer begins at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant with Jedi Master Sol teaching a group of children of the Order how to stop looking and start seeking vision inward, in order to connect with the Life Force and find one’s purpose.

The Acolyte plot

While one child sees balance, another sees life, and so on. But, when a particular child only sees fire, it is teasing enough to note her darker instincts. The young child grows up to be Mae, an assassin who emulates the dark side of power and uses the Life Force for corrupt and selfish purposes, like murdering Jedis, the guardians of peace and justice.

But what will happen when Master Sol fights against the young girl he once trained? The show has a multi-layered plot, with Mae and Master Sol being pitted against one another, manipulative plots being hatched, and multiple murders to solve. But the real struggle is for power. Just like Mother Aniseya says near the end of the trailer, the battle is not between good or bad, but about power and who is allowed to employ it.

The Acolyte cast

The Acolyte features a starry cast, with Bodies Bodies Bodies fame Amandla Stenberg as Mae and Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae as Master Sol. The show also stars the talented and renowned likes of Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo in prominent roles.
