After the overwhelming response for its anti-social villains from Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, DC seems to once again venture deep into the dark side of villains and their lives. We have always wanted a movie to celebrate Joker, and Joaquin Phoenix made it come true for us. Now Matt Reeves has announced his plans for a spin-off series focussing on the supervillain Penguin.
The series will be made for the streaming platform HBO Max, which will be available in India too once the streaming platform enters the Indian market. Colin Farrel, who plays the role of Penguin, has been approached to reprise his role in the series too. Penguin or Oswald Cobblepot is a character who had to go through struggles, bullying and mental torture, which made him loathe the people and the city of Gotham. The sole aim of Oswald’s life is to either rule over Gotham or if he fails, destroy Gotham once and for all. He is also one of the first supervillains to be open about his homosexuality.
Robin Lord Taylor is credited as the best Penguin to date for his impeccable performance in the series Gotham. The character has previously been played by actors Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito.
According to The Indian Express, the series will focus on Oswald’s transformation to Penguin and his rise to power. Matt Reeves and The Batman movie producer Dylan Clark will executively produce The Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners. Warner Bros., who produced Gotham, will also bankroll the project.
