After exciting fans for the past month with numerous sneak peeks of Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar, ZEE5 finally released The Broken News Season 2 today. And within no time, the series has garnered an immense response, according to the streaming giant. Debuted in 2022, the political drama delves into the lives of journalists, the media industry, their work culture, how they deal with TRP ratings, how they make news ‘sansani’, the dirty politics, and more.
Today is World Press Freedom Day and ZEE5 shared some exclusive videos of real-life journalists and how they make news ‘sansani'. They also speak about how they feel if someone makes news ‘masaledar’ for their own benefit. In the video, we get to see Shriya Pilgaonkar as the host, saying, “Jab journalism aur sensationalism ki baat aati hai, kya sach sansani ke samne haar jata hai? (When journalism and sensationalism collide, does truth lose out to sensationalism?)”
While Sneha Menon Desai from Film Companion agreed that it does lose, Puja Talwar said that if they are reporting the truth, then channels don't need sensationalism. On the other hand, Garima Budhani shared that audiences want to watch only news that they have heard about on their own. Aaina Mehta stated that the truth should be broadcast the way it is and not mixed with any ‘masala’.
Here are some other journalists’ thoughts that you would love to hear:
The Broken News Season 2 begins with a new chapter. You will find Radha Bhargava (Shriya Pilgaonkar), who was once the front face of Josh 24x7 channel, struggling after she got accused by Dipankar Sanyal of being a terrorist on national television. She has been suspended. However, Awaaz Bharati and Josh 24x7’s battle is still on. Each network is fighting to uphold its own version of truth, twisting the narrative to serve their agendas.
Meanwhile, Dipankar Sanyal (Jaideep Ahlawat) remains a threat to Radha’s life. He is obsessed with taking Radha down. He relentlessly pursues her, even from behind bars. Now, the question is, will Radha be able to find a way to clear her name? Can journalistic ethics survive in a world of competing narratives? The second season of The Broken News is full of thrills and bold moves from Radha Bhargava.
