It’s no more a secret that since the pandemic Mammootty has been signing films that challenge him as an artiste rather than sticking to what’s working in the box office. The megastar, who has been choosing both big-budget entertainers such as Bheeshma Parvam and CBI 5: The Brain and movies with unique narratives including Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Rorschach, will next team up with Jeo Baby.

The filmmaker, who caught attention with his seminal film The Great Indian Kitchen that released last year, is now rumoured to be helming a movie with Mammootty as well as Jyotika in the lead. The film will also reportedly be produced under the banner of Mammootty Kampany.

When we got in touch with the filmmaker, he said that there are plans of him doing a movie with Mammootty but rest of the details are all speculative at this point. “We have only begun preliminary discussions of the project. The rest of the cast is not confirmed,” he said.

Jeo’s The Great Indian Kitchen had released directly on Neestream before it was picked up by Amazon Prime Video following its breakout success. The filmmaker had also helmed Tovino Thomas’ Kilometers and Kilometers, 2 Pennkuttikal and Kunjudaivam. His latest venture was the Sony LIV anthology Freedom Fight, which he had also produced. Jeo also helmed a segment titled Old Age Home, which had Joju George and Rohini as part of the cast.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s production venture Mammootty Kampany has so far backed two films – Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Nissam Basheer’s Rorschach. While the former is expected to tour the festive circuit before its release, the latter, which is a thriller, is gearing up to hit theatres during Onam.

The megastar is currently shooting for B Unnikrishnan’s big-budget thriller, which is scripted by Pulimurugan and Aarattu’s writer Udaykrishna. The movie also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vinay Rai, Sneha, Amala Paul and Vasanthi, who had played Agent Tina in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.
