Movie buffs were surprised when director Kannan announced his decision to remake the widely acclaimed Mollywood film The Great Indian Kitchen. He roped in Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Raveendran to play lead roles in the Tamil version for which they retained the same title.
The actors essayed the roles enacted by Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in Malayalam. The Kollywood movie, which was released on February 3, opened to good reviews from critics, though it didn't make any noise at the box office. The makers were appreciated for retaining the essence of the original.
Durgaram Choudhary and Neel Choudhary have bankrolled the movie which has music composed by Jerry Silvester Vincent. Balasubramaniem and Leo John Paul have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the film which has lyrics penned by Kabilan Vairamuthu and Kiruthiyaa. Gayathri Raguramm and Satish Krishnan have choreographed dance sequences which garnered positive reviews.
Jeevitha Suresh Kumar has penned dialogues for the family drama which revolves around a housewife who struggles at her husband's home owing to the patriarchal mindset of her life partner and father-in-law. How she breaks the shackles and leads a free-spirited life forms the rest of the story.
The Great Indian Kitchen is dropping on Zee5 on March 3. The makers had earlier informed that the leading platform had bagged its digital rights. An official announcement on the OTT release date has been made now. Cinephiles are curious to know people are going to compare the Tamil and Malayalam versions.
Interestingly, the film's Kannada and Telugu versions, too, will be released simultaneously online along with the Tamil one. The movie, which was supposed to hit the screens much earlier, was postponed a few times.
