Back in 2020, an official announcement of Aditya Dhar's The Immortal Ashwatthama was made. The film was supposed to star Vicky Kaushal in the lead role and it was to be directed by filmmaker Aditya Dhar. The Immortal Ashwatthama would've marked Vicky and Aditya's reunion after Uri: The Surgical Strike. However, Aditya has now confirmed that the film is shelved. At the trailer launch of Article 370, he shared an update on The Immortal Ashwatthama.

Aditya Dhar confirms The Immortal Ashwatthama is shelved

Aditya Dhar was present at the trailer launch of his wife Yami Gautam's movie, Article 370. The filmmaker has served as the writer of this movie. While interacting with the press, Aditya confirmed that his ambitious project The Immortal Ashwatthama has been shelved. The director stated that the kind of vision everyone had for the film, was 'too big to work' for Indian cinema.

"The kind of VFX quality we were looking at, nobody has even strived for it here," he said at the event. He cited an example of James Cameron who thought of Avatar around 27 years ago but waited for the market to grow.

Having said that, Aditya believes if someone wishes to achieve excellence, there can't be any mediocrity. He added that if the film takes five years of his prime time, it needs to be brilliant. "I can't make it for the heck of it," said Dhar.

Aditya Dhar's upcoming project

Although The Immortal Ashwatthama has been shelved, Aditya Dhar has Article 370 lined up in the pipeline. He has worked on the storyline of the movie along with Arjun Dhawan and Aditya Suhas Jambhale. Interestingly, Aditya Suhas Jambhale has directed the movie which stars Yami and Priyamani in pivotal roles.

The movie is a political drama that revolves around the takedown of terrorism in Kashmir by rendering Article 370 ineffective. Inspired by true events, the film has been scheduled for a theatrical release on February 23, 2024.
