Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files has been making a lot of noise following its release. The director has now taken to social media to ask to not screen his film starring Anupam Kher for free.

Taking to Twitter, the director shared a poster informing about a free screening of the film that is to be held. “Showing #TheKashmirFiles like this in open and free is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE. Dear @mlkhattar ji, I’d request you to stop this.” he wrote, directing it towards a local BJP leader.

He also added that political leaders must respect creative business and that true nationalism and social service is buying tickets in a legal manner.

Written and directed by Agnihotri, the film is based on the genocide of the Kashmiri pandits during the Kashmir Insurgency. Apart from Kher in the lead, the movie also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Chinmay Mandlekar, Prakash Belawadi and Puneet Issar among others.

The film has done great business following its release and has already grossed over Rs 140 crore nett. The Kashmir Files, backed by Zee Studios and Abhishek Agarwal Arts, is currently available in theatres across the country.

The film was also made tax-free for the audience in states such as Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh.

Agnihotri also recently shared that he is planning to make a series based on the information he has collected on the film’s subject.
