Sharafudheen’s latest film The Pet Detective seems to have capitalised on the Diwali weekend to improve its box office numbers. The film, which also stars Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead, is doing much better than Navya Nair-led Paathirathri at the ticket window. Both films opened to mixed reviews, but The Pet Detective seems to be faring better than the cop drama Paathirathri.

The 2025 Malayalam film Pet Detective, starring Sharafudheen and Anupama Parameswaran, released in theatres on October 16, to mixed reviews with critics panning the poor screenplay. But despite this, the film has made Rs 4.31 crore in India net collections, as per Sacnilk. The comedy film, which many have been calling a fun, mindless entertainer, made only Rs 0.39 crore on its first day. But the Praneesh Vijayan directorial improved its earnings with Rs 1.49 crore and Rs 1.03 crore collected on Sunday and Monday.
On the other hand, Paathirathri, which released in theatres on October 17, 2025, a day after The Pet Detective, opened with Rs 0.25 crore. The cop drama, which also stars Soubin Shahir along with Navya Nair, has been struggling at the ticket window since, with day 3 being its highest collection so far with Rs 0.46 crore reported. The total worldwide collections stand at a disappointing Rs 1.48 crore.
The Pet Detective seems to have come at the right time as it promises just laughter this festive weekend. Sharafudheen stars in the lead role of Tony Jose Alula, who becomes a private detective, to impress the father of his love interest Kaikeyi. But things take a chaotic turn when his paths cross with those of an international mafia. Online trackers have said that the Sharafudheen-starrer has been seeing several houseful shows. But the real test of The Pet Detective will start from today with the Diwali long weekend coming to an end. It remains to be seen if The Pet Detective is able to maintain its momentum in the coming days.
But it looks like to be a herculean task ahead for Paathirathri, which follows a woman police officer and a constable whose lives are thrown into disarray after a particular incident at midnight. Puzhu director Ratheena PT has helmed this film, which won mixed reviews.
