The Raja Saab OTT release: Makers edit multiple scenes to avoid trolls, here's what we know

The Raja Saab is one of the most talked-about films in recent times, right from the day it went on the floors. Released with huge expectations, the Prabhas starrer failed to click at the box office and ended up as one of the biggest disasters of his career. The horror-comedy is now all set to stream on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium from February 6, 2026.

From trolls to trims: The Raja Saab gets a new OTT edit

Ahead of its OTT release, it has come to light that the makers have re-edited the film. Several scenes that were heavily trolled during its theatrical run have reportedly been removed or trimmed in the OTT version. 

These include moments where VFX was used to replace Prabhas with a body double and scenes where logic clearly went for a toss. The makers have reportedly reduced the runtime by nearly 10 minutes to provide a better viewing experience for the OTT audience.

The Raja Saab faced massive criticism for its poor use of VFX, especially in scenes where Prabhas’ face was digitally replaced with a dupe. Trolls had a field day pointing out these mistakes, and this became one of the major reasons behind the film’s disastrous performance. 

Maruthi trolled heavily for The Raja Saab's failure

Another key factor was director Maruthi’s handling of the project. Despite taking over three years to complete the film, the narration lacked emotional depth and thrills, disappointing audiences. Even with seasoned actors like Sanjay Dutt, Zarina Wahab, Boman Irani, and others in key roles, the film failed to make an impact.

The Raja Saab marked one of the biggest flops in Prabhas’ career. Since the film’s release, Prabhas has largely stayed away from public appearances. The film featured Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar as the female leads, with music composed by Thaman. Unfortunately, not a single song managed to click with the audience, which added to the negative buzz. 

Although the trailer generated decent hype and director Maruthi’s pre-release interviews raised expectations, the film failed to live up to them. Released during the crowded Sankranti 2026 season, The Raja Saab faltered badly, while Mana Shankara Prasad Garu, starring Chiranjeevi, emerged as a massive hit. 

How much did The Raja Saab loose at the box office?

Reports suggest that Prabhas is unhappy with the way The Raja Saab was handled and has strongly reprimanded Maruthi. The makers reportedly suffered losses of nearly ₹100 crore, leaving several distributors and exhibitors in distress.

It remains to be seen whether the edited OTT version fares any better. Once the film lands on streaming platforms, it can be watched on OTTplay Premium.
