The Waking of a Nation director Ram Madhvani on visiting Jallianwala Bagh: 'You see bullet holes on...'

Ram Madhvani's upcoming web series, The Waking of a Nation, is about to release in a few days. The series is set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. After the incident, the British Government formed the Hunter Commission to investigate it. In a recent interview with ETimes, Madhvani shared his experience of visiting Jallianwala Bagh. The filmmaker also revealed 12 British actors of his series weren't aware of the 1919 incident.

Sharing his experience of visiting Jallianwala Bagh, Ram Madhvani said, "I think when you go to Jallianwala Bagh, many things happen to you. You do see the bullet holes on the wall, and there is a certain reaction that does come. But I'm also happy that there is a memorial because we've dedicated the show to their memory."

The filmmaker further revealed the history about this incident hasn't been taught in British schools. "It's not taught in British schools, and that's a big deal. When our 12 British actors came down from London, they didn't know about this. When they read the script, they said this is what we genuinely want people to know about," Ram shared.

The director believes that there are many ways through which people can understand what happened in the past. And his web series, The Waking of Nation, is one way people can understand it.
