The twists and turns pertaining to upcoming Deepavali releases in Tamil Nadu continues. The postponement of Silambarasan's much-awaited political thriller Maanaadu to November 25 is the latest news in the industry which has left movie buffs surprised. It was a month ago that the makers officially announced the film's theatrical release on Deepavali.
The movie was expected to take on Rajinikanth's Annaatthe, Vishal-Arya's Enemy and Arun Vijay's Vaa Deal. However, on Monday morning, producer Suresh Kamatchi and director Venkat Prabhu took to Twitter to reveal their change in plans. According to them, the decision is made keeping in mind that exhibitors, distributors and others associated with the movie should reap profits.
Silambarasan's previous outing, Eeswaran, clashed with Vijay's Master when it was released in theatres on Pongal, earlier this year. The movie, which opened to mixed reviews, is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Meanwhile, the actor had taken to Twitter yesterday to post a picture of him travelling in flight, revealing that he is on the way to shoot for a crucial schedule for Gautham Menon's Venthu Thaninthathu Kaadu. He also has Gokul's Corona Kumar, the announcement of which was made last month, in his kitty.
The recent Dusshera festival, too, witnessed a few last minute changes with regard to postponement of movies. Vishal-Arya's action flick Enemy was the first project which was announced as a theatrical release for the festival. Later, they decided to arrive on Deepavali.
Similarly, Sasikumar's Rajavamsam and Atharvaa's Thalli Pogathey, which was earlier slated for a Dussehra release, opted out of the race. Their release dates are yet to be confirmed. Kollywood film lovers are eagerly waiting to know if there will be more twists in the offing. For now, Annaatthe, Enemy and Vaa Deal are the three movies that are expected to hit the screens this Deepavali.
