Ajith Kumar's Thunivu, one of the biggest Tamil releases this year, hit the screens on January 11 amid huge expectations. The project, bankrolled by Boney Kapoor, was helmed by H Vinoth. The movie, which marked the third collaboration of Ajith, Vinoth and Boney, was released simultaneously in Telugu as well under the title Tegimpu.
The film is said to have grossed 200 crores worldwide after its four week run at the box office. Ajith's presence and a few action scenes composed by Supreme Sundar are considered to be the highlights of the movie.
The film surpassed Varisu, which released on the same day, on day one in Tamil Nadu, and garnered comparatively better reviews as well from critics. The hurried climax, lack of intriguing character designs for other actors and unconvincing second half were pointed out by film buffs. Ghibran's background score is another aspect which received positive response.
Thunivu has showcased an encouraging box office trend in overseas markets and has emerged as Ajith's numero uno film in a few territories. Lyca Productions presented the action drama overseas while Red Giant Movies distributed the film in Tamil Nadu.
Thunivu is gearing up for its digital release now. The makers have officially announced that the film will have its OTT premiere on February 8 on Netflix. The movie revolves around a mysterious person who attempts a bank robbery successfully. How and why he does the same forms the rest of its story.
Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, Balasaravanan, Ajay and Bagavathi Perumal play key characters in the movie which has cinematography and editing handled by Nirav Shah and Vijay Velukutty respectively.
