Kollywood is eagerly awaiting the Pongal festival in January as films of Ajith and Vijay are expected to have a clash at the box office. The former's Thunivu and the latter's Varisu are hitting the screens on January 12. H Vinoth and Vamshi Paidipally have directed the movies respectively.

Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies is distributing Thunivu while Seven Screen Studio is presenting Varisu in Tamil Nadu. Leading Telugu producer Dil Raju, who has bankrolled Varisu, has now courted controversy for an interview he has given to Telugu media. He has requested distributors of Thunivu to allot more screens for Varisu as Vijay, according to him, is a bigger star than Ajith.

A short clip from the interview has been doing the rounds on social media. Raju has been at the receiving end ever since the clip has gone viral. Fans of Ajith have been lashing out at him for making unnecessary statements, while many Tollywood film lovers are criticizing Raju for allotting more than reasonable theatres for Varisu in Telugu states.

The dubbed version of Varisu, titled Vaarasudu, is expected to have a huge release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, despite two big stars, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna, coming up with their movies around the same time.

The former's Waltair Veerayya and the latter's Veera Simha Reddy are arriving on January 13 and 12 respectively. Shruti Haasan plays the female lead in both the movies that are produced by Mythri Movie Makers.

Needless to say, this Pongal/Sankranti release is going to be a huge treat for Tamil and Telugu movie buffs. Films of Ajith and Vijay are clashing after nine years, while movies of Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna are set for a clash after six years.
