Thunivu vs Varisu: Here's why #KingOfOpening is trending as Twitter war erupts between fans of Ajith and Vijay

Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu hit the screens across the world yesterday and both the films have opened to above average reports. Film enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for the box office numbers. Though the makers of two movies are yet to come up with official figures, there are a few numbers that are doing the rounds. 

It is heard that Thunivu has had an edge over Varisu in Tamil Nadu. The latter had bagged bigger screens and many attribute this reason for the Ajith-starrer's lead at the box office.

Some of the prime locations in Tamil Nadu like Chennai, Chengalpet and Trichy have H Vinoth's action drama surpassing Vamshi Paidipally's family drama on day one. Thunivu is set to be the biggest opening for an Ajith film in overseas and neighbouring states.

Elated fans of the star took to Twitter to trend the hashtag #KingOfOpening, a moniker the actor has been enjoying since several years owing to his unmatched capability to attract the crowd on initial days. However, heated arguments are happening on the social media with regard to day one numbers in Tamil Nadu.

The cumulative gross collection of both the films from Tamil Nadu on day one is said to be above 45 crores, a new record in the state. With the movies garnering only decent reports, it has to be seen how far they could bring in all sections of audience in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Varisu has taken the lead when the global box office is taken into consideration. Many movie buffs point out that its gross would have been more had its Telugu version released on the same day.
