Tamil cinema is set to witness one of the biggest box office clashes in recent times as Ajith-starrer Thunivu and Vijay-starrer Varisu will lock horns in January. Though makers of both the projects are yet to announce their exact release dates, the two films have confirmed their outings for the Pongal festival.
Ever since the clash has been confirmed, fan fights between admirers of the two stars have erupted on social media. They are eagerly looking forward to the day one figures of both the movies and the number of theatres that will be allocated across Tamil Nadu.
Actor-politician-producer Udhayanidhi, who has bagged theatrical rights of Thunivu, has confirmed that both the movies will have almost equal theatre allocation across the state. His Red Giant Movies had presented Vijay's Beast earlier this year. He also revealed that he distributed Ajith's Valimai this year in a few areas in the state.
This revelation has further escalated fan fights between fans of the actors on social media. It is heard that Thunivu and Varisu might have a one day gap between their releases. The films are likely to hit the screens on January 11 and 12, according to sources.
The last time Kollywood witnessed a huge clash was in 2019 when Rajinikanth's Petta and Ajith's Valimai released on the same day. Though the former succeeded in the world wide box office collection, the latter had an upper hand in Tamil Nadu.
The digital rights of Thunivu and Varisu have been bagged by Netflix and Amazon Prime respectively. The former has H Vinoth at the helm while the latter has been directed by Vamshi Paidipally. The Ajith-starrer has been bankrolled by Boney Kapoor; the Vijay-starrer, on the other hand, has been produced by Dil Raju.
