Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra's dark comedy Toaster is finally making its way to Netflix. Streaming of the film is expected to commence in April 2026, as per the most recent preview dropped on the platform's "Coming Soon" section. Since its announcement in 2024, the film has been the topic of industry conjecture. It marks a significant milestone as Rajkummar Rao's debut as a producer.
Toaster is a multi-layered narrative that combines high-stakes criminality with domestic comedy, directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary. Ramakant (Rao), a pathologically frugal man, finds himself in a precarious situation after receiving a high-end toaster as a wedding present. After the wedding is unexpectedly cancelled the following day, a chain reaction of disastrous events is set in motion by Ramakant's fixation on retrieving the ₹5,000 appliance. Malhotra plays Shilpa, the wife of Ramakant, who becomes caught up in her husband's crazy pursuit. Murder, secrets, and unintentional chaos ensue from what starts as a minor effort to retrieve a present.
Rao and his wife Patralekhaa started a production company called KAMPA Films, and this film is their debut feature. The name of the company is a combination of their mothers' maiden names, chosen as a tribute. Although Rao leads the cast, Patralekhaa has decided to stay behind the scenes so she may concentrate on producing. An ordinary household item is transformed into a "MacGuffin" for a complicated thriller, as previously stated by the makers, who hailed the subject as the script's strong suit.
Toaster boasts a large ensemble cast that are renowned for their impeccable comic timing. Among the supporting cast members are Vinod Rawat, Archana Puran Singh, Seema Pahwa, Jitendra Joshi, and Upendra Limaye. Abhishek Banerjee, who worked with Rao on Stree, is another notable actor in the film. Farah Khan, who is known for her work as both a director and a choreographer, is also set to make an unusual acting appearance.
The screenplay for the film was written by Parveez Shaikh, Anagh Mukherjee, and Akshat Ghildial. Reportedly, Ghildial—also known for his work on Badhaai Ho—has added a keen, observational wit to the dialogue, which goes well with the story's gloomy undertones.

Rao has already collaborated with Netflix on hit shows including Ludo (2020), Monica, O My Darling (2022), and Guns & Gulaabs (2023), and this movie is their fifth major release together. Rao and Malhotra, who were co-stars in Ludo and HIT: The First Case before, reunite after a long time.
Despite rumours that Toaster will debut in late 2025, the launch has been rescheduled for next month due to post-production needs and a strategic change in Netflix's 2026 Indian slate. At this time, subscribers can see a one-minute teaser on the platform that showcases the "irreverent" and "offbeat" tone of the film.
