Production on the highly anticipated Marvel film Spider-Man: A Brand New Day has been momentarily halted following Tom Holland's hospitalisation while filming in Glasgow. Deadline reports that production halted Friday's filming when the actor suffered a mild concussion while performing a stunt.
Holland will take a brief break "out of precaution," according to a source close to the project, but it is anticipated to return to filming in a few days. The insider emphasised that the incident did not affect anyone else. In view of the accident, tomorrow is the date of the production meeting that will be called to revise the shooting schedule.
According to The Sun, Holland's injuries happened as a result of a stunt gone disastrously. Over the weekend, the actor and his co-star-fiancée Zendaya attended a charity event, indicating that his status remains stable despite the incident.
Holland was quite excited about filming on location before he even left for Scotland. After filming Spider-Man: No Way Home entirely on soundstages during the COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed his excitement about filming on location.
He said, "Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it; it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together."
Sony Pictures formally announced Spider-Man: Brand New Day in October 2025, pencilling in a release date of July 24, 2026. The title was later revealed to the public in March during CinemaCon.
Producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige are back, while director Destin Daniel Cretton—best known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings—is at the helm. Zendaya will be returning as MJ, and Liza Colón-Zayas and Sadie Sink have also joined the cast in unnamed capacities.
Fans shouldn't be surprised if the film's ambitious on-location vision is upheld; despite the temporary delay, sources indicate that the Glasgow filming will resume once Holland has fully recovered.
