Minnal Murali star Tovino Thomas is busy with his first all-out theatrical, commercial entertainer since the pandemic. The shoot of Thallumaala, which is helmed by Unda and Love director Khalid Rahman, is currently progressing in Dubai and the team is expected to wrap up the portions this month.
The movie, scripted by Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza, has Hridayam and Bro Daddy actress Kalyani Priyadarshan as its female protagonist, and also has Shine Tom Chacko and Lukman Avaran in pivotal roles. Touted to be a festive entertainer, the movie revolves around the life of Tovino’s character from his college days to his 30s.
Recently, the makers had released a vibrant first look poster of the film introducing Tovino’s Malabar-based character Wasim. While Tovino has been part of several action entertainers, this is probably one of the first all-out commercial films that the actor has worked on.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the film’s producer Ashiq Usman had told us that it will also be different from director Khalid’s previous movies such as Anuraga Karikkin Vellam and Unda as well as Muhsin’s scripts Sudani from Nigeria and Virus. “Thallumala is a proper entertainer with eight action scenes and eight songs,” he said.
Apart from Dubai, the film’s main locations include Thalassery, Kozhikode and Malappuram. The Dubai portions will also include a few Arab actors. The team has also roped in a bunch of talents who became popular through social media as part of the film’s cast.
Meanwhile, Tovino, whose latest release Naradan is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, has also completed shooting for Vishnu G Raghav’s family courtroom drama Vaashi. The movie has him and Keerthy Suresh playing a couple who are also lawyers. Tovino’s production house also recently entered into an agreement with Yodlee Films to produce films and web series in Malayalam and Hindi.
