After the success of the superhero film Minnal Murali, which released directly on Netflix last December, Tovino Thomas’ Naradan has now dropped on OTT. The makers will be hoping that the film gets as much acceptance, if not more, as the Malayalam star’s previous OTT release.
Naradan, which is set against the backdrop of media, is helmed by Virus and Maayanadhi director Aashiq Abu and features an ensemble supporting cast including Kumbalangi Nights and Helen fame Anna Ben, Sharafudheen, Jayaraj Warrier, Indrans, Rajesh Madhavan and Renji Panicker in pivotal roles.
The film has Tovino playing a TV journalist named Chandraprakash, who is forced to re-evaluate his ethics and principles after his superiors push him for TRPs. Chandraprakash, who resigns from his job, starts a new channel and follows questionable modus operandi to break news. How this comes back to bite him later forms the plot of the movie, which also has Malayali rapper Fejo in a crucial role.
Naradan is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, which will also be releasing Shane Nigam’s Veyil later this month. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Naradan director Aashiq Abu said that the film sheds light on how the pressure of working in a media organization today impacts the professional and personal lives of journalists.
“I think it’s a pressure that exists globally. In the time of live news coverage, how many journalists are able to follow the basic rules of sources and authenticity that they learnt in their journalism classes? The chief reason for this is the pressure they are under to perform,” he said. The film is scripted by Unni R.
Meanwhile, Tovino, who is currently shooting for Thallumaala, is set to team up with Aashiq again later this month for the period horror film, Neelavelicham, which also has Roshan Mathew, Rima Kallingal and Shine Tom Chacko.
