Toxic actor Sudev Nair on Yash, Geetu Mohandas' working dynamics: There's no ego and it's not about seniority | Exclusive

The much-anticipated Kannada film, Toxic, starring Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas, has been in the news ever since its announcement, which many felt was a surprise director-star combination, given how Geetu is associated with acclaimed films while the actor is a man of the masses. There have also been murmurs of disagreements on the project, but Malayalam actor Sudev Nair, who is also playing a key role in the upcoming film, said that it was all about teamwork on the sets, and there was not about ego or seniority. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Sudev Nair, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming Malayalam series Kammattam (on Zee5 vs OTTplay Premium), spoke about the two projects, terming Toxic as the other extreme.

Sudev Nair on Yash-Geetu Mohandas' Toxic

Toxic is an upcoming Kannada film, which stars Rocking Star Yash in the lead. Geetu Mohandas, who has directed acclaimed films like Moothon, helms this ambitious film, which is set to release in March 2026. There were rumours of trouble on the sets, with allegations of Yash ghost-directing. But Sudev Nair tells OTTplay that it is good teamwork.

“Geetu is highly skilled, everyone knows that. Yash has chosen to work with this filmmaker after so long. Yash also has a deep understanding of filmmaking. Rajeev (Ravi) ettan is doing the cinematography, so it is in safe hands. It was good teamwork, give and take. There was no ego or anything. Yash will take Geetu’s suggestions, and she will take his suggestions. It is not about status or seniority, only the film is the goal,” explained the actor, who has worked across languages. From Mammootty's Bheeshma Parvam to Jr NTR-led Telugu film Devara: Part 1 and Hindi movie Gulaab Gang, Sudev Nair has dabbled in various industries.

When asked about his experience of working with KGF star Yash, Sudev Nair only had good things to recount.

“It was a very rewarding and learning experience to work with Yash. I am a primary character (in the film), and I got the chance to work closely with him. Yash is a very good actor, not just a star. Actually, a very good actor. He is also very open to discuss (his craft). He doesn’t have any airs. We will discuss my performance as well. He is very open, so it was a very rewarding experience.”

On the other hand, Sudev Nair's upcoming Malayalam series hogged headlines after its director Shan Thulasidharan revealed that they completed shooting for the show across 40 locations in just 11 days! 

Comparing the shooting process of Kammattam and Toxic, Sudev Nair explained, “Toxic is the other extreme of this (Kammattam). It is a project that requires a lot of time. It is a big-scale project, the attempt and its goals are different. We are striving for perfection in each frame. We will keep repeating until everything comes out correctly. For Toxic, we would take 2 or 3 days just to shoot one scene,” On the other hand, the Kammattam team completed over 20 scenes in a single day.
