Oscar-nominated director Lee Isaac Chung helms the upcoming disaster thriller Twisters for Amblin Entertainment and is produced by the renowned Jurassic franchise collaborators Patrick Cowley and Frank Marshall. Written by Revenant creator Mark L. Smith, the film serves as a modern-day follow-up to the 1996 original film of the same name.
The film will enjoy a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Starring the talented likes of Glen Powell as Tyler Owens, Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, Anthony Ramos as Javi among the lead cast, Twisters also features underrated likes of Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, among many others.
Twisters also had its trailer released during the Super Bowl on February 12. It offered a thorough yet thrilling glimpse of the upcoming summer hit. It follows the tale of Kate, a former storm chaser cum scientist, who now stays safe and studies storm patterns, after a traumatic tornado encounter in the past.
However, when her friend Javi cajoles her into returning to the open air to test a new storm tracking system, Kate crosses path with Tyler Owens, the social media sensation and his raucous team. He is renowned for chasing storms with no care for safety, recording the experience and getting a kick out of the high of adrenaline and likes on social media.
As the two initially clash and sparks fly, they get to know each other better, developing both a rapport as well as a common goal with mutual benefits. But what happens when nature decides to take a hostile stance? As multiple storm systems converge over Central Oklahoma, a rarely seen, deadly phenomenon occurs- twin tornadoes.
If surviving one tornado is not hard enough, now Kate and Tyler must survive two of them. The trailer features intense scenes of destruction, loss of lives and property, as well as grueling circumstances that only fate and quick thinking can save them from.
