Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was elected as the MLA from Chepauk constituency in Chennai last year, left his followers surprised when he announced his plans to quit acting a few months ago. He also added that his ongoing project Maamannan would be his last outing as an actor.
He cited political responsibilities as the reason behind his decision. However, he later reconsidered his plans and said that he would continue to act in films which might appeal to him. After a while, Udhay announced that he will be playing the lead in a movie which will be bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International.
But fate had something else in store for him. The producer-turned-actor has sworn in as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports in the Tamil Nadu cabinet today. He has now officially declared his plan to bid adieu to acting. As announced a few months earlier, Maamannan, directed by Mari Selvaraj would be his last movie.
He has also made it clear that he has opted out of the project which he intended to do under Kamal Haasan's production. The latter had congratulated the former on his new responsibility from his Twitter page. The likes of Rajinikanth and Santhanam are others who wished Udhay in his new endeavor.
Udhay's last outing was Magizh Thirumeni's Kalaga Thalaivan which was released in theatres a few weeks ago. The action drama is set for an OTT release on December 16.
Nenjuku Needhi, directed by Arunraja Kamaraj, was his first release this year. The film, which was the official remake of Article 15, opened to decent response from critics and the audience. He is currently bankrolling Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2 along with Lyca Productions.
