We are soon to sign off 2025, and that brings us to the time to look back at what Indian cinema has given us this year. While there have been some thunderous hits like Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra, Chhaava, Kantara: Chapter 1 and more across languages, there is also a fair share of films that had gone under-noticed despite some appreciation. Superboys of Malegaon – Prime Video
Superboys of Malegaon is a Hindi coming-of-age drama helmed by Reema Kagti, and penned by Varun Grover. Superboys of Malegaon is about a group of amateur filmmakers hailing from the titular town, and is inspired from the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon. The film enjoyed an international festival release, and stars Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, Vineeth Kumar Singh, Riddhi Kumar and others.
Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai – SunNXT via OTTplay Premium
Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai is a romantic drama film starring Lijomol Jose, Rohini, Vineeth, Anusha and others. The film is written and directed by Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan and revolves around a young woman who comes out of closet and introduces her girlfriend to her family. However, unable to accept their daughter's identity, the movie revolves around the emotional turmoil and happenings that take place in the household. Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai is a piece of cinema that empathises with the LGBTQ community, and talks about the equality demanded for same-sex romance.
Thalavara – Prime Video
Thalavara is a Malayalam coming-of-age drama featuring Arjun Ashokan and Revathy Sarma. The film features the former as a man with vitiligo and how society perceives him. As he faces the challenges thrown by the society, the protagonist moves forward but how much can he? It is directed by Akhil Anilkumar who has also written it alongside Appu Aslam.
Raju Weds Rambai - ETV Win via OTTplay Premium
Raju Weds Rambai is a Telugu romantic drama about a band drummer who falls for a girl. What starts off as a village romance soon turns into a turmoilous conflict and pain, with the question of whether the lovers will reunite or not. It features Akhil Raj, Tejaswi Rao, Chaitu Jonnalagadda, and others, with Saailu Kaampati directing the film.
Elumale – Z5 via OTTplay Premium
Elumale is a Kannada romantic thriller drama about a young woman who elopes from her house to unite with her lover, only to be caught in between a police operation. Directed by Punit Rangaswamy in his debut, Elumale is led by actors Raanna and Priyanka Achar. Actors Jagapathi Babu, Kishore and others also play supporting roles in this film.
Stolen – Prime Video
Stolen is a Hindi thriller drama headlined by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Gaurav Dhingra. The film is about a man whose infant is kidnapped by a woman. But it doesn't stop there, when two brothers get pulled into the crime as eye witness as the scene slowly shifts towards them as culprits. Stolen had premiered at the international film festivals before releasing in India. Addressing the mob psychology, Stolen also features Shubham Vardhan, Mia Maelzer, Harish Khanna and others.
The Great Pre Wedding Show – Z5 via OTTplay Premium
The Great Pre Wedding Show is Telugu comedy drama helmed by Rahul Srinivas Lukalapu. Starring Thiruveer and Teena Sravya in lead roles. Though the film had received good reviews, the film did not get enough attention at the box office. The Great Pre Wedding Show is all about a small time photographer who shoots an influential couple's pre-wedding shoot, but loses the memory card. What happens in the aftermath and how the photographer wades through his way forms the rest of story.

Maayakoothu is hyperlink crime fantasy film directed by AR Raghavendra. The film stars Nagarajan Kannan, Delhi Ganesh, Sai Dheena, and others. Maayakoothu is about a writer who gets to face the characters that he is creating through his creative works. Though the film did not garner a wide appreciation, those who watch the film appreciated the performances and writing.
Hebbuli Cut – Prime Video
Hebbuli Cut is Kannada feature directed by debutann Bheemarao with a cast including Mounesh Nataranga, Ananya Niharika, Mahadev Hadapad, Uma YG, Punith Shetty, Vinaya Mahadevan, and Mahantesh Hiremath. The drama is about a high school student who wants to impress his classmate who is a Sudeepa fan. To do so, he decides to get the same haircut akin to the actor's character in Hebbuli but must pay a price of Rs 500 to the only barber in town.
Narayaneente Moonanmakal – Prime Video
Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal is a Malayalam drama by filmmaker Sharan Venugopal. Featuring Joju George, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Alencier Ley Lopez among others, Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal is about the reunion of three brothers at their ancestral home after many years to be by the bedside of their dying mother. Exploring the dynamics between the estranged family members, the film received glorious reviews.
