Va Vaathiyar on OTT - Watch Karthi's film on this OTT giant after its theatrical run

The wait is over! Karthi's film with Nalan Kumarasamy, which was tentatively titled Karthi 26, has officially been named Va Vaathiyar. And that's not all! All those waiting for news of Va Vaathiyar on OTT (because don't we all want to know on which OTT platform we can watch a movie as soon as it is announced?) will be delighted to know that Amazon Prime Video has secured the OTT rights to the film. 

The movie will be available to be streamed on the OTT giant after its theatrical run. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Va Vaathiyar is Karthi’s 26th film and is currently in the production stage. Details regarding its release date are eagery awaited. 

Karthi is a MGR fan in Va Vaathiyar?

According to official reports, Va Vaathiyar centres around a diehard fan of legendary actor and late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MGR. He even treats his grandson like a reincarnation of MGR. But does he grow up to be like MGR? What happens when he grows differently, which is in conflict with the ideals of his grandfather? This forms the crux of the story. 

Reports also suggest that MGR will come to life and will only be seen and heard by Karthi’s character, who will not only influence his actions in the story but also provide entertainment to the audience. This angle has piqued the interest of MGR and Karthi fans, who cannot wait to see what the film has in store for them.

The reason behind the title 'Va Vaathiyar'

For the uninitiated, the late actor MGR was popularly called Vaathiyaar, which means 'teacher' in Tamil. This was due to his philanthropic activities and because his characters fought for social justice. Interestingly, in the film Nam Naadu, there is a song called ‘Vaangaiya Vaathiyar Ayya’. The popularity of this song led to the nickname Vaathiyaar. In fact, this is what is believed to have prompted MGR to pursue his political career.

Va Vaathiyar officially launched

Karthi’s 26th film was officially launched with a puja. A video released from the puja ceremony features the team and production members taking part in the inaugural ceremony. Actor Gautam Karthik also attended the pooja, hinting that the actor might play a pivotal role in the film. Krithi Shetty and Sathyaraj are also expected to be part of the film.
