Vaa Vaathiyaar box office collection day 5: Pongal 2026 is turning out to be a dull festive week for Tamil stars this year. After Jana Nayagan's release was delayed over censor issues, and Parasakthi failing to live up to the expectations, even Karthi-led Vaa Vaathiyaar is seeing a downward trend, with the film even failing to make Rs 1 crore on day 5. This has led to concerns about whether it would be yet another disappointment for Pongal 2026.
What’s the box office collection of Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar
Vaa Vaathiyaar is a 2026 Tamil movie, which was released in theatres on January 14 as one of the much-anticipated Pongal releases. However, Vaa Vaathiyaar opened to mixed reviews and made only Rs 1.65 crore on its opening day. The Karthi film improved its number on day 2 with Rs 2.35 crore made in India net collections which is also the film’s highest earnings so far. Day 3 and day 4 saw the film making Rs 1.55 crore and Rs 1.45 crore, respectively.
However, the film saw a 62.76% per cent drop on day 5, respectively, making a mere 0.46 crore. This is concerning, as day 5 was a Sunday and also the festive weekend. The Pongal holidays have come to an end and offices and schools have reopened from January 19, 2026. This casts serious concerns about Vaa Vaathiyaar’s upcoming days at the box office.

Helmed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vaathiyaar stars Karthi as Ramu, who shares the same date of birth as the onscreen idol MGR. Though his grandfather brought him up on good ideals, Ramu goes down a morally corrupt path.
Krithi Shetty plays the female lead along with Sathyaraj and Rajkiran in this film, billed as an action comedy.
Among the other Pongal releases, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi is faring better with Rs 3 crore made on January 18. The total collection of Sudha Kongara directorial now stands at Rs 50 crore in its 9 days at the box office. However, Jiiva's Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil has been performing well and has already made twice the earnings of Vaa Vaathiyaar, though both films had a simultaneous release.
