There have been unconfirmed reports that the first single from Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu will be released on Deepavali. The song composed by Thaman is said to have been crooned by the actor himself. However, a couple of days ago, it was almost confirmed that the news is untrue, leaving fans disappointed.

However, the makers have come up with another surprise for them. A new poster of the film has been unveiled in which Vijay is seen in an action avatar. The actor, who is seen sporting an all-black outfit, wields a long hammer in his right hand even as some of the baddies are spotted lying on the ground.

The poster which comes with Deepavali wishes reaffirms the movie's Pongal release. But some of the fans feel that the team should have announced the exact release date of the project. The makers also informed that movie lovers can expect many updates from the next week.

There is news of the Vamshi Paidipally directorial clashing with Ajith's Thunivu for Pongal, but an official confirmation is awaited from the makers of the latter. For now, Varisu is the only Tamil film that has announced arrival for the festival in January 2023.

But the movie's Telugu version Vaarasudu will have to slog it out, thanks to multiple Tollywood releases expected around the festival. Prabhas-starrer Adipurush was the first big project which announced its release on Pongal/Sankranti.

The movie will have a huge release in the Hindi market as well. Chiranjeevi's Mega 154 and Balakrishnan's Veera Simha Reddy are also likely to hit the screens for the festival in Telugu states.
