Actor Vijay Deverakonda has once again teamed up with his Geetha Govindam director Parasuram for a family entertainer. There is immense anticipation around their new project, which has Mrunal Thakur as the female lead. Tentatively titled VD 13, the film is currently under production, and if speculations are to be believed, it will be released in theatres on January 14, 2024.
VD 13 is Vijay's 13th film and is produced by Dil Raju. While the makers have confirmed that the movie will release during Sankranti 2024, the exact release date is yet to be officially announced. However, if the reports are to believed, VD13 might join the Sankranti/Pongal race with Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram, that is helmed by Trivikram Srinivas, and Nagarjuna Akkineni's romantic-action film Naa Saami Ranga. All the films are slated to released during the early 2024 festive season.
OTT rights for VD 13
It has been reported that both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video rejected the film when they were approached for the digital rights, since the price of Rs 70 crore that was quoted by producer Dil Raju was way too high for them. It is said that the producer is currently in negotiations with a third party.
Vijay and Mrunal’s other films
Vijay's latest release, Kushi, in which he is paired with Samantha, was a big shot in the arm for him. The hit film raked in over Rs 75 crore gross at the box office. The actor is currently busy with the shoot of VD 12, which is helmed by Jersey director Gowtam Tinnanuri.
Meanwhile, Mrunal will be seen in quite a few Telugu films. She will be seen in Nani’s Hi Naana and is also gearing up for the period drama titled Matka, in which she is paired with Varun Tej. The actress plays a village belle in the period film that is directed by Karuna Kumar of Palasa fame.
