Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda reunited with his Taxiwala director Rahul Sankrityan for the upcoming film VD 14, which has now been officially titled as Ranabaali. Popular actress Rashmika Mandanna too joins Vijay Deverakonda in the upcoming film, which has confirmed its worldwide release date to be September 11, 2026. The much-anticipated film will narrate the horrific tales of oppression during the British era, and the fight led by the 'savage' Ranabaali (played by Vijay Deverakonda).

What is Ranabaali about

Vijay Deverakonda’s new film with Rahul Sankrityan is a period drama, set during the colonial era. He also revealed a short animated video, introducing the theme of the film and lead characters. The video states this is “not the story of Independence, but the dark, hidden story. The story of a genocide in British-occupied India - worse than Hitler's Holocaust.” It gives more startling facts of 100 million killed in 40 years and 45 trillion dollars stolen from India. The video clearly hints that the movie would depict the atrocities inflicted on Indians during the colonial era and the resistance against it.

Who plays what in Ranabaali

Vijay Deverakonda plays the titular role of Ranabaali, and is shown as a fiery warrior. While revealing the title, Vijay Deverakonda said that the Britishers called him 'savage' and that he 'did not disagree'. Actress Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma. Arnold Vosloo will be seen as Sir Theodore Hector. 

Vijay Deverakonda would play the dual role of a father-son in the upcoming film, it was earlier reported. Rahul Sankrityan had earlier helmed Shyam Singha Roy, starring Nani and Sai Pallavi, that was also a period romantic film.

Where to stream Ranabaali

Though the film is yet to be released theatrically, the streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix. The film will drop on the streaming giant after its theatrical run.

Earlier in the day, Vijay Deverakonda had revealed the Telugu poster of the Malayalam film Patriot, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty.
