Veteran actor and Kajol’s mom Tanuja discharged from hospital

Veteran actor Tanuja was released from the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital on Monday night, according to a source. Due to age-related difficulties, the 80-year-old actor—who has starred in films like Jewel Thief and Haathi Mere Saathi—was admitted to a Juhu hospital on Sunday night. 

The source told PTI on Tuesday, "She was discharged from the hospital late last night as all her health parameters were normal."

Tanuja is a well-known actor in the 1960s and 1970s who appeared in a number of Bengali and Hindi films, including Deya Neya, Teen Bhubaner Pare, Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi, Mere Jeevan Sathi, and Jeene Ki Raah.

In 1950, she debuted as a child actor in the movie Hamari Beti, which also served as the catalyst for the professional success of her older sister Nutan. Her mother, the seasoned actress Shobhna Samarth, made her directorial debut with the movie.

She has also acted in the TV series Aarambh and Junoon. Tanuja last appeared in the 2022 anthology Modern Love: Mumbai on Prime Video.

Tanuja is the mother of actors Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji. 

Tanuja celebrated her 80th birthday in September. Using social media, Kajol, Tanisha, and Ajay wished her a happy birthday. “Happy eightieth birthday, mom. I can never thank you enough for everything you’ve taught me by example and still continue to do so today. I love you to bits and pieces… Eight decades of love, wisdom, and laughter! Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom!” Kajol penned.

Tanisha also wrote a heartfelt note for her mother, which read, “Happy birthday my Maaaaa! My warrior my devi! The one who showed me that age is just a number and that life is for living on ur own terms ! Here are just a few images that show the many colours that make u You! Generous loving and always ready to take care of everyone!!! Love uuu my earth mother.”
