Veteran Tamil actor Poo Ramu passes away; celebs offer condolences, share memories of working with him

Kollywood actor Poo Ramu breathed his last at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Chennai yesterday late evening after he was admitted there post a massive cardiac arrest. The 60-year-old versatile actor rose to fame after his commendable performance in Sasi's Poo which was released in 2008.

The actor was rushed to the hospital on Friday following uneasiness. His last notable performance was in Soorarai Pottru which had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video in 2020. Ramu played Suriya's father in the film; his scenes with the latter were appreciated by film buffs, thanks to the intense emotions.  

Many celebs from the industry took to social media to offer condolences and share memories of having worked with the actor who has been hailed as a good human being by many. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin was one of the first from the state to have expressed shock and disappointment over his demise. 

Arun Matheswaran posted that Ramu will be missed and described him as a "terrific performer, a good human". The actor was seen in the former's debut flick Rocky which also happened to be his last movie.

Seenu Ramasamy, who worked with Ramu in Neerparavai and Kanne Kalaimane, expressed grief and wondered who would play the characters he had kept in mind for the veteran actor. Seenu posted. "My Darling Pretty young old man Comrade..Ramu love you (sic)."

Mammootty, who worked with him in the forthcoming movie Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, opined that Ramu was "one of the finest artists in Tamil cinema" and thanked him for being a part of the movie. Vijay Sethupathi, producer Sameer Bharat Ram and director Kumaran are a few others from the industry who expressed condolences. Pariyaerum Perumal, Karnan and Nedunalvaadai were a few other projects in which Ramu came up with commendable performances.
