Vettaiyan, the action-drama film which stars Rajinikanth in the lead role, ended up as a disappointing affair. The movie, directed by TJ Gnanavel, has not been performing well at the box office, owing to negative reviews and lack of word-of-mouth publicity. Even though Vettaiyan crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office, the Rajinikanth starrer, made in a budget of a whopping Rs. 300 crore, has not achieved breakeven. Lyca Productions, the banner that bankrolled the film, reportedly suffered major losses due to the same.
According to the recent updates from the trade experts, Lyca Productions, the prestigious Tamil production banner that bankrolled Vettaiyan, suffered a major financial setback with the underperformance of the film. The makers have reportedly expressed their deep disappointment over the same, to the legendary superstar. The grapevine suggests that the leading man agreed to take a pay cut for the project, considering the situation of the producer and distributors.

The superstar is reportedly planning to compensate the makers by agreeing to their request. For the uninitiated, Lal Salaam, the previous release of the legendary actor, which was also directed by his elder daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, also ended up as a massive disaster at the box office. However, the makers are hopeful of recovering from the big fall, with a new Rajinikanth film.

If the reports are to be believed, Rajinikanth might collaborate with Lyca Productions yet again, after finishing his current commitments. In that case, the project might materialize by the second half of 2025. Even though the project is still in its budding stage, the rumour mills suggest that some of the highly talented directors of contemporary Tamil cinema, including Venkat Prabhu, are being considered to direct the film. The director, who recently collaborated with Thalapathy Vijay for The Greatest Of All Time aka The GOAT, is also keen to team up with superstar for a project.
