On December 1, 2023, the box office saw a massive clash between two big Bollywood films: Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal and Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur. Both the films did well at the box office and Vicky received a lot of praise for the portrayal of India's first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshow's character. The film, which was directed by Meghna Gulzar received widespread acclaim. Now, Vicky has reflected on the clash the film faced with Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal.

Vicky Kaushal was recently questioned about his film Sam Bhadur and whether the film met his expectations as it clashed with another biggie, which broke multiple box office records. Vicky told The Week Magazine: "With Sam, we always knew it was a Test match; we knew it was not the quintessential masala film that Animal was―it had the shock value and one knew it would create waves at the box office."
He further spoke about how the team of his film was aware that the film would resonate with the audiences by word-of-mouth promotion. He also added that according to him the success of a film depends on people's connection with the story, despite its release timing.
Highlighting the response that Meghna Gulzar's directorial received, Kaushal said that he observed a gradual increase in the discussions about his film. He said it brought him immense joy to see that film continuing its movie shows in January.
With the multiple releases and box office clashes of major movies at the box office, the actors and filmmakers are now focussing more on the content of their films rather than choosing a date that gives them a free window for their single release. However, it is also to be noted that Ranbir and Vicky are coming together in the future for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, also starring Alia Bhatt.
Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal have earlier worked together in the film Sanju, where both were appreciated for their outstanding performances. The duo once again collaborated for Vicky's film, Love Per Square Foot, where Ranbir made a small cameo appearance.
Animal and Sam Bahadur worldwide box office collection
On December 1, 2023, Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, also starring Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimti, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, among others was released. The film made more than 900 crore at the worldwide box office.
Sam Bahadur, on the other hand, was released on the same date starring Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film's overall box office collection was 109.1 crore.
