With Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi's release delayed, Tamil cinema has seen a surge in medium and small-budget films stepping into the Pongal festive window.

With Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi bringing in much disappointment for fans, Tamil cinema seems to have another plan in place real quick. As soon as Lyca Productions postponed the release of Vidaamuyarchi without disclosing the reasons, several medium and small-budget films took up the festive window.
While audiences have now a lot of films to catch up on, Ajith Kumar’s fans who are disappointed due to the delay, still celebrate their favourite star Ajith Kumar, who has been wielding a star power that could change the calendar of Tamil cinema.
The last minute of Vidaamuyarchi’s delay has made several Tamil films come to the fore for the Pongal race. Fans of Ajith Kumar, who say “It proves AK is the biggest star”, given how many small and medium-budget films are releasing for Pongal, are also equally sad about the last-minute postponement of Vidaamuyarchi.
Vidaamuyarchi is an action thriller film starring Ajith Kumar and helmed by Magizh Thirumeni. The film is produced by Lyca Productions, who as per reports, are believed to be facing financial and copyright problems, which has led to the delay. However, no official reasons were given out.
Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen’s romantic drama Kadhalikka Neramillai, Shane Nigam’s Tamil debut Madraskaaran, Mirchi Shiva-starrer Sumo, Sibi Satyaraj's 10 Hours, Arun Vijay's Vanangaan (which was already scheduled for Pongal), Aditi Shankar and Akash Murali’s Nesipayya, and Tharunam will release for the festive season. While Kadhalikka Neramillai and Nesipayya are releasing on January 14, Madraskaaran, and Vanangaan, will be released on January 10.
Along with this, Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer directed by Shankar will also release on January 10. The film is expected to have a good market in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi belts.
