Viduthalai Part 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Viduthalai, hit the theatres on December 20, 2024. The period political crime thriller, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran, has received mixed reviews from the audiences. As reported earlier, some port ions of the Vijay Sethupathi starrer were trimmed before its theatrical release to fit into the feature film duration. However, Viduthalai Part 2 is now confirmed to have an extended runtime on OTT.
In a recent interview with a leading online media, director Vetrimaaran confirmed that the OTT version of Viduthalai Part 2 will have a longer runtime of over an hour. In that case, it is now safe to assume that the Vijay Sethupathi starrer, which is gearing up for its streaming debut in Zee5, will have an extended runtime of three hours and 53 minutes. The new update has left the Tamil cinema audiences, who have been eagerly waiting for the film’s OTT release, highly excited.
Interestingly, Vetrimaaran also revealed that the combined runtime of the both the parts – Viduthalai Part 1 and Part 2, exceed eight hours. The extended cut of the highly celebrated Viduthalai Part 1, which is currently available for streaming on Zee5 and OTT Play Premium, has a runtime of over four hours. In that case, Vetrimaaran’s films emerged as two of the longest films ever produced by the Indian film industry, so far.
Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of Perumaal Vaathiyar, the leader of Makkal Padai, in the Vetrimaaran directorial. Manju Warrier appears in the role of Perumal’s wife, in the film, which stars Soori, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Anurag Kashyap, Ken Karunas, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and other essay the supporting roles. Ilaiyaraaja composed the songs and the original score for the film. R Velraj is the director of photography. R Ramar handles the editing.
