Bollywood star Vidya Balan has never held back while expressing her passion for Malayalam films and her Malayali roots. The Bhool Bhulaiyaa star, who frequently shares reels on her social media page, recently shared a video in which she recreates a famous sequence from the film Punjabi House, starring Malayalam actor Harisree Ashokan.
The actress acted out a scene from the 1998 film where Harisree Ashokan's character attempts to speak with a chef in a Punjabi home. In shaky Hindi, he attempted to explain to her that he preferred rice to chapathi. 'Chapathi nahi nahi....Chor', Harisree Ashokan's most famous line, originated from this scene.
Below Vidya Balan's post, her fans and a few Malayalam actresses, including Aishwarya Lekshmi and Arya Babu, wrote comments lauding her. Her flawless recreation of this famous scene from Punjabi House, which was a box office success after playing in theatres for more than 100 days in 1998, has also drawn praise from many. In this timeless comedy drama, Dileep, Mohini, Lal, Cochin Haneefa, and Janardhanan all have important parts to perform.
Last year, the actress also reenacted a funny sequence from Mookilla Rajyathu, one of the famous Malayalam comedy movies. Soon after this reel, many people expressed their excitement over seeing Vidya in a Malayalam film.

Vidya Balan's family is from Palakkad district in Kerala, but she grew up in Mumbai. In the movie Chakram, she was chosen to play the lead opposite Mohanlal. However, production problems caused the film to be shelved. Mukesh's Kalari Vikraman, another Malayalam film she completed filming in 2003, never released in theatres.
Following a career in Bollywood, Vidya made a brief appearance in 2011 as Makkom, occasionally referred to as Bhoomi, in Prithviraj Sukumaran's period drama, Urumi, which is streaming on Sun NXT, ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium. After this film, she hasn't acted in a Malayalam film. Her most recent release was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which is available on Netflix.
