Vidyapati, the fourth production by actor-producer Daali Dhananjaya under his banner Daali Pictures, and the second with Nagabhushana in the lead, after Tagaru Palya, released in theatres on April 10 and was on OTT in less than a month. On May 3, the film by Ikkat makers Esham and Haseen, had already made its way to Amazon Prime Video, the platform that had hosted Tagaru Palya as well.

While Tagaru Palya was on the streamer for a few months and then made its way to the Daali Pictures YouTube page, with Vidyapati, it seems that the makers opted for a non-exclusive deal, allowing them to shop it elsewhere too. Just over 3 weeks after the Prime Video release, Vidyapati has dropped on Sun NXT as well as of May 28, 2025, presumably because the satellite rights rest with the network. If you missed the film in theatres or on Prime Video, you can now watch Vidyapati now on OTTplay Premium.

The plot of Vidyapati

Vidyapati follows the escapades of Siddu (Nagabhushana), whose daily hustle puts him in superstar Vidya’s (Malaika Vasupal of Upadhyaksha fame) path and he sees an easy way out of his days of struggle. After convincing her that he’s the man of her dreams, they get married, only for him to then turn into a money-hungry free-loader leading the good life.

On a night out, the couple encounters a thug, Jaggu (Garuda Ram), who misbehaves with Vidya, which Siddu can do nothing about. Irked by Siddu’s lack of will to protect her and his attempts to find an easy way out of the situation, Vidya puts the brakes on their marriage and throws him out. Forced to return to his father’s humble abode, in an area he’d long chosen to stay away from, Siddu not only has to mend his ways, but also figure out a way back into Vidya’s heart.

Vidyapati follows Laughing Buddha, the Rishab Shetty production, which also premiered on Prime Video first and then headed to Sun NXT. The film also stars Head Bush actor Dhananjaya in a pivotal cameo, as well as Girish Jatti, Bindu Raxidi, Rangayana Raghu, among others.
