Kannada actor Nagabhushan’s fourth film as a leading man, Vidyapati, will be in theatres on April 10. The film reunites him with the director duo of his earlier Ikkat, Esham and Haseen, and pairs him with Malaika Vasupal, whose debut film was last year’s hit comedy, Upadhyaksha. Produced by Daali Dhananjaya’s Daali Pictures, Vidyapati is Nagabhushan’s second venture for the banner, after Tagaru Palya.
In the film, Malaika is a star called Vidya, while Nagabhushan is her husband and, hence, Vidyapati, whose main objective in life is to live in luxury with her earnings. What happens when he is faced with a certain conflict and has to put up a fight is what the film focuses on thereafter. For this, Vidyapati seeks training in martial arts in the film, which he did in real life too, albeit not too intensely.

The actor would work out for an hour every day, focusing not so much on being able to land a punch or two, but on how to dodge it effectively. Speaking to Kannada Picchar, Nagabhushan said that his training entailed exercises for flexibility as well as gymnastics that would help him with action blocks. “During stunts, it is important to know how to block punches and how to fall when punched, without hurting oneself. So, my training was more about learning how not to get hurt during fight sequences,” explained the actor.
Vidyapati also stars Garuda Ram and Rangayana Raghu, among others, with Dossmode filling in as music director. Vidyapati is Dhananjaya’s fourth as producer, starting with Badava Rascal and Head Bush, both of which had him in the lead. The third was Tagaru Palya with Nagabhushana in the lead. Dhananjaya is committed to ensuring that Daali Pictures remains a platform to promote new talent, in front of and behind the camera.
