Puri Jagannadh's Liger has been hitting the headlines for many reasons. The Vijay Deverakonda-starrer which is set for a theatrical release on August 25 is the star's first outing in the pandemic era. Though he was seen in the hit Telugu film Jathi Ratnalu last year, it was a cameo.
Liger, which will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, enjoys good hype among movie buffs, especially Tollywood and Bollywood audiences. However, the film has been drawing flak for the last couple of days, thanks to the "boycott gang" who has threatened to skip the movie for insane reasons.
While a few pointed out that the reason to boycott the film is because of Karan Johar being involved in it, some others have been criticizing Vijay's arrogance during the movie's promotional activities. The other day, Vijay spoke about the boycott trend which is rampant among Bollywood audiences and its ramifications.
But it seems to have had no effect on those who are hell-bent on spewing hatred against the project. The hashtags like #BoycottLigerMovie and #BoycottLiger have been trending on Twitter since the last two days. Interestingly, fans of Vijay shot back by coming up with hashtags like #ISupportLiger and #UnstoppableLiger.
Now, amid all these hullabaloo on Twitter, Vijay has confirmed that team Liger has plans to come up with a sequel for the movie. The actor opened up about the same during one of the promotional activities. He said that he is likely to join Liger 2 after he completes his project with Pushpa fame Sukumar.
Ananya Panday plays the female lead in Liger which has Ramya Krishnan and Makarand Deshpande playing key roles. The presence of boxing legend Mike Tyson is one of the attractions of the movie which revolves around an underdog from Mumbai setting out to win big in the sport.
