Director Vijay Kartikeyaa has created a sense of expectation from him after his debut film Max – fast-paced action entertainers is his forte, that’s the impression one got. The trailer of his sophomore film Mark seems to resonate just that, but the filmmaker says that he doesn’t want audiences to dismiss it as just another action flick. There’s more to him as a writer and director, he says.

Mark has a strong emotional arc: Vijay Kartikeyaa

Speaking at the film’s trailer launch, Vijay said, “Mark is not just an action film; there’s an emotional arc in the story, which will play out in the second half.” In the trailer of Mark, Sudeep as SP Ajay Markandayya is investigating the mysterious disappearance of vulnerable children, most of who end up dead. This investigation becomes personal for him when someone from his family is affected, as he seen promising to bring ‘Archana’ back safe and sound. Presumably, this makes the case top priority for SP Mark, besides, of course, getting back at the politician who orchestrated his suspension.

Mark, meanwhile, has a distinct Max hangover, with Sudeep playing a cop on suspension yet again. In fact, it has been rumoured that the film was meant to be a Max sequel, but had to be rechristened and rebranded owing to other reasons. However, Sudeep has repeatedly maintained that there’s no connection between the films and that the character is vastly different.

Unlike Max, which had been announced as a pan-India release, but came out only in Kannada in theatres, Mark will have a multi-language theatrical outing. In Karnataka, the film will clash with Arjun Janya’s debut directorial 45, although both teams do not want to term it as such.

The film has a massive ensemble cast onboard, including the likes of Shine Tom Chacko, Roshni Prakash, Archana Kottige, Pratap Narayan, Vikranth, Yogi Babu, Guru Somasundaram, Dheepshika, Naveen Chandra, among many others. The film has Ajaneesh Loknath’s music, his third collaboration with Sudeep after Vikrant Rona and Max.
