When it comes to Shah Rukh Khan’s early days in the world of television, the 1988 series Fauji (in which he played Lt Abhimanyu Rai) and 1989-1990 series Circus (featuring him as Shekharan) are often the most talked about. But did you know there was another serial, called Dil Dariya, where also the Pathaan star did a memorable role?

In what can be described as a ‘blast from the past’, veteran actor Virendra Saxena - who played a pivotal character in Anubhav Sinha’s social drama film Bheed, starring Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar and Pankaj Kapur - recently shared an old clip from the series - featuring a young Shah Rukh, along with Virendra and veteran actress Jayshree Arora. In the video, Virendra (who plays SRK’s father in the series) seems to be angry at him for not being around at their shop during work hours, as a doting mother (Jayshree) looks on.

Virendra took to Instagram to share the clip, with the caption: “Dil Dariya with Shahrukh Khan @iamsrk #srk #movies #cinema #fans #artist #mumbai”.

Directed by the late filmmaker Lekh Tandon, Dil Dariya (1988-1989) is a story set in Punjab. The plot revolves around two best friends, who are also neighbours, hailing from two different religious communities - Hindu and Sikh. The serial was aired in Doordarshan, and it also featured Alka Amin, Arun Bali and Vineeta Malik, among others.

Cut to the present, Shah Rukh is making headlines for his intriguing looks in the recently released Jawan Prevue. Slated to release on September 7, the Atlee-directed action thriller also features Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani and Sanya Malhotra in key roles, while Deepika Padukone is likely to make a special appearance.
