With director Mysskin relinquishing his rights to the franchise, Vishal is overjoyed to take the director's chair for Thupparivaalan 2.

Tamil actor-producer Vishal expressed gratitude to a handful of people, including director Mysskin, while announcing Thupparivaalan 2. He revealed that the film will mark his debut as a director, bringing his long-nurtured desire to fruition.
In a video posted on his social media handles, Vishal recalled he entered the film industry with a desire to become a director. However, it was actor-filmmaker Arjun Sarja who advised him to become an actor first before pursuing directing.

"And my journey finally begins after 25 years. My dream, my aspiration, my first thought of what I wanna be in life has come true. Yes, I take charge of a new responsibility, the most challenging in my career, that of a debutante director. Here we go finally. Off to London, Azerbaijan, and Malta for the recce of my first directorial debut #Thupparivalan2 & #Detective2. No words to explain but just remembering what my #Dad Mr. G.K. Reddy and #ActionKingArjun sir said. #HardWorkNeverFails," he said.
Thupparivaalan 2 is a sequel to the 2017 detective thriller Thupparivaalan, which is touted as an ode to Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Originally envisioned and directed by Mysskin, the film gave Vishal a much-needed break in his career upon its release, emerging as both a critical and commercial hit.

However, Vishal and Mysskin had a terrible fallout during their collaboration on Thupparivaalan 2. The production was halted midway, with both parties publicly lashing out at each other.
Following an ugly war of words, Mysskin relinquished the rights to the franchise, allowing Vishal to take over the reins of the project.
