Wait, WHAT? Did Will Smith just slap Chris Rock on the Oscars stage?

The 94th Academy Awards will definitely go down in Hollywood and cinema history, though not just for the consecutive historic wins. Things became heated at the ceremony after King Richard actor took a swing at comedian Chris Rock.

The comedian was on stage to present the winner for Best Documentary, but before that, he made a comment on Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith that did not go down well with the couple. 

Rock called Pinkett Smith "GI Jane" for her shaved head, which drove Smith to walk on stage, throwing a slap and saying, "Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!" which was muted out from the broadcast. 

The altercation not just left the stars seated in the ceremony all shades of surprised and appalled, but instantly led social media users into a frenzy.

Rock seemed taken aback by this, but quickly regained his composure and joked that this was "the greatest night in the history of television."

Diddy, the next presenter, attempted to clear the air and said, "Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family. Right now we’re moving on with love. Everybody make some noise.” 

Variety notes that right after Smith's incensed reaction, the actor's publicist reached his seat to have a discussion, and Denzel Washington also got up to have a chat with the actor in private.
