Sriram Raghavan's love for Hindi cinema of the 1970s and '80s is a renowned entity on its own. His films brim with references and nods to some of the classics of the past and his craft, too, carries the flair and the cheekiness that one gets to see in the work of yesteryear filmmakers like Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra and Ramesh Sippy. This time around, though, the 'Merry Christmas' filmmaker's tribute to one of the legends of the game comes in a slightly different tone.
Earlier today, the iconic Dharmendra took to social media to share a rather striking video snippet featuring Sriram Raghavan himself. In the video, Raghavan can be seen enjoying a drink while also watching one of Dharmendra's many popular hits, Abhi Toh Haath Mein Jaam Hai from the 1972 film 'Seeta Aur Geeta'. Speaking to the camera, the director declared that it was one of his all-time top 10 favourites before raising his own Jaam to it.
What also catches your eye in the video is Sriram Raghavan's t-shirt, which proudly carries the poster of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1966 classic 'Anupama', starring Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore.
"Sriram Raghavan, a genius and a loving human being working with him in one of the best film “IKKEES” a true story 🙏" wrote Dharmendra, who shared this endearing video on social media. The two, of course, have famously worked in the 2007 film 'Johnny Gaddaar' and are set to soon reunite for 'Ikkis'.
Very recently, the 'Johnny Gaddaar' filmmaker attended a special celebration of Indian cinema in Mumbai which was hosted by the Victorian State Government of Australia and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. There, he was joined by several legends of Hindi cinema including Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, and also other well-known actors and filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, Shoojit Sircar and others.
